SANESMITH
Started: Mid 1980s Primary affiliations: TFP, TDS, RIS, VIC Local origin: NYC
Areas hit: NYC Streets Main lines: All-city

SANESMITH first came into the public eye during the mid 1980s. The efforts of SANESMITH hold a critical place in New York City Graffiti history.; the mid '80s were a transitional period for writing. At this point the Metropolitan Transit Authority was finally beginning to gain the upper hand in the war on graffiti. Graffiti removal from the subway was significantly more effective than in previous generations of writers. Many writers were frustrated and quit writing.

SANESMITH and writers such as the RIS crew continued to bomb subways during this period. It seemed to many that New York City writing was on its deathbed. With trains becoming an increasingly less viable option, SANESMITH began to hit the streets of New York. They took bombing to an entirely new level. They hit extremely high-profile locations throughout the city; climaxing on the ]]>

His most prolific work is as an illustrator/designer of record sleeves, first becoming involved with The Clash; producing a sleeve for their Radio Clash 7" single and handwriting the sleeve notes and lyrics sheet for their LP Combat Rock. Years later James Lavelle resurrected his career by getting him, alongside Ben Drury, to produce the artwork for]]>

SEEN

Q- What crew(s) do you represent?

UA -But since I am the only original active member I don't put it up anymore.

Q- When did you start painting? Do you still paint?

In 1973, I crept into the #6 Train Yard to paint my first piece. Graffiti is my life! I have been very fortunate to make a living of Graffiti one way or another. I plan to go to the grave with a can in my hand!

Q- Why did you start?

My Mom used to say I started bombing as a child.

But in the summer of 1973, I went into the #6 Train yard and painted my first SEEN piece. Why I started painting is always a hard question to answer. Everyone starts painting for different reasons, I guess it is important to point out that age 12; I was doing custom airbrushing work on cars at my uncle's auto body shop. It just so happens that my uncleМs shop was right next to #6 train yard. So I guess watching the graffiti art movement beginning to emerge, along with my skills as an airbru]]>

Andre the Giant bombs the world!
From London to L.A., Tokyo to Philly, guerrilla artist Shepard Fairey's ironic, iconic postering blitz featuring the long-dead WWF star has become a global phenomenon.

By Stephen Lemons

June 22, 2000 | LOS ANGELES -- It's late on a muggy Saturday night in Hollywood, and guerrilla artist Shepard Fairey is hanging by his fingers from the ledge of an abandoned building. Moments earlier Fairey was pasting an 8-foot-high portrait of the late World Wrestling Federation star Andre the Giant on the building's wall, but things have suddenly taken a dramatic turn.

Fairey got about half of the colossal poster up before some rent-a-cops came a-callin'. In full Wu Tang-ninja "they'll never take me alive" mode, he hid from view, scrambling to the edge of the ledge while the private security guards radioed for backup.

http://irc.lv/blogs?id=20175 t-kid http://irc.lv/blogs?id=20175 irc@irc.lv (nekittt) I started late summer of '84. When old drammen town writers like "Eddy & Gerry" was rocking the city. Eddy was the brother of a girl in my class, so he inspired me to start.

Have you been writing KID the whole time?
Ive been writing Kid since 1985. Before that I had names like "Pink" "Tins" "Seem" & "Cere". And I used to write "Nuba" just for fun a couple of years ago, but Ive stopped using that name now.

People consider you as a king of Drammen. Do you have any comments to that?
I don't see myself as a "king". Im just doing my shit. Besides my partner LOZE is at least as king as me.

What do you think of the Norwegian graff scene compared to other countries?
The Norwegian graff scene sucks as many other foreign graffiti scenes. Too much fighting and wars made by jealous writers. Writers should concentrate more on doin fat stuff then fuckin eachother up!

The good part is that Norway is getting more and more good writers who r]]>
