EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ZEPHYR BY B-BOYS.COM

Theory: Give us a brief description of your background? Where you live. How old you are.

Zephyr: I've lived in New York City all my life. I'm 39 years young.

Theory: How did you first get introduced into Graffiti? When did you do your first real piece?

Zephyr: I did my first piece in'75 or thereabout. I started writing "Zephyr" in '77.

Theory: Who are some of the old skool people that you used to go out with and do you still keep in contact with any of them?

Zephyr: Yes. I still hang with my graff partner from the old days, REVOLT. We've been painting together for over twenty years. A lot of old New York writers are still active..IZ, SEEN, BLADE and many others.

Theory What are you up to these days?

Zephyr: I'm working on a book about DONDI.

Theory: What would you say is your most interesting experience you've had 'writing' over the past 20+ years?

Zephyr: All the enormously talented and diverse artists I've had the privilege of knowing.

Theory: Are you doing any 'legal pieces' and what are your feelings about them?

Zephyr: I'm doing only legal pieces in New York City right now, unfortunately. The current administration has us all on lock down these days.

Theory: I know that you have been in this game for so long but have you been influenced by any other artists work?

Zephyr: Yes. Way too many to mention, but I'll give props to some of my past partners like Dondi, Rasta, and Noc who constantly painted me into the ground and made me work harder.

Theory: What plans do you have for yourself down the road? Clothing line? Book? I personally wish there was a Graffiti Museum of Art

Zephyr: There will be a museum devoted to graffiti built in our lifetime. I'm sure of it. Hopefully it will happen here in New York. I try not to be overly commercial, but I am producing a few items for sale. Check the "market" section of my web site, ZephyrGraffiti.com. Also, I'm always doing illustration and paintings. As my web site evolves, some of my work will be made available on-line, so stay tuned.

Theory: Finally, do you have any advice for young Graf Artists just getting started?

Zephyr: Don't get arrested and don't get killed. Respect yourself. Respect others.
