Почему are polluting, present continious? Они что загрязняют воздух не постоянно а иногда?
Если что то происходит постоянно нужно использовать present simple :
Automobiles pollute air, but they provide transportation for people.
Сантехник: they provides transportation s употребляеться только в единственном, а здесь they - их много
